About these ratings

IIHS evaluates commercial vehicles for driver protection and crash avoidance.

The driver protection assessment looks at the following safety equipment, which should be standard on all vehicles:

• Driver front airbag
• Driver side curtain airbag
• Driver seat belt pretensioner
  A pretensioner tightens the belt around the driver the instant that a crash occurs.
• Driver seat belt force limiter
  A force limiter reduces the risk of chest injuries with a controlled extension of the belt a split second after a crash.
• Effective seat belt reminder

The crash avoidance assessment currently includes tests of vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention and pedestrian front crash prevention.
