Driver restraints and dummy kinematics
Dummy movement wasn't well controlled. Special stitching on the lap belt tore, lengthening the belt. This allowed the dummy to finish partially reclining with the belt up over its abdomen. The stitching is designed to tear and control occupant movement in some crashes but contributed to poor dummy kinematics in this case.

Action shot taken during the frontal offset crash test.

Post-crash damage shot.

Excessive safety belt slack allowed the dummy to submarine under it during the offset test. The dummy ended up after the impact in a partially reclining position.
