Moderate overlap front: original test

Rating applies to 2002-06 models

Tested vehicle: 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer LS 4-door

The Mitsubishi Lancer was introduced in the 2002 model year. No 2007 models were produced, and the redesigned 2008 models will be introduced in spring 2007.

Driver restraints and dummy kinematics
Dummy movement was reasonably well controlled. The driver's seat tipped toward the B-pillar. During rebound, the dummy's head hit the B-pillar.

Action shot taken during the frontal offset crash test.

The dummy's position in relation to the steering wheel and instrument panel after the crash test indicates the driver's survival space was maintained well.

Smeared greasepaint indicates where the dummy's head hit the B-pillar and head restraint during rebound. Head acceleration from these hits was low.

The dummy's left knee and shin pressed into and deformed the knee bolster to the left of the steering column. Leg injury risk was low.

Tested vehicle: 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer ES 4-door without optional side airbags

The Mitsubishi Lancer was introduced in the 2002 model year. No 2007 models were produced, and the redesigned 2008 models will be introduced in spring 2007.

Driver head protection
The dummy's head was hit by the intruding barrier, producing high head injury measures.

Rear passenger head protection
The dummy's head was hit by the window frame and window sill of the rear passenger door as well as the pillar behind the door. These impacts did not produce high head injury measures, but the head protection is inadequate.

View of the vehicle just after the crash test.

View of the vehicle after the crash with doors removed, showing damage to the occupant compartment.

Action shot taken during the side impact crash test showing the driver dummy's head being hit by the intruding barrier.

Smeared greasepaint shows where the rear passenger dummy's head was hit by the window frame and window sill of the rear passenger door as well as the pillar behind the door.
