Moderate overlap front: original test

Rating applies to 2000-01 models

Tested vehicle: 2000 Isuzu Rodeo LS 4-door 4wd

The Isuzu Rodeo and the Honda Passport were redesigned for the 1998 model year and structurally modified beginning with 2000 models to improve occupant protection in frontal crashes.

Driver restraints and dummy kinematics
Dummy movement wasn't well controlled. During rebound, the dummy moved toward the driver door. Its head leaned through the open side window and approached but did not hit the window sill. Then the head moved up and hit the roof rail.

Action shot taken during the frontal offset crash test.

The dummy's position in relation to the steering wheel and instrument panel after the crash test indicates that the driver's survival space was maintained well, despite some buckling of the A-pillar.

A strong safety cage helped keep the tire from buckling the sill beneath the driver door, maintaining the integrity of the occupant compartment. Crumpled structure in front of the occupant compartment indicates where the crash energy was absorbed.

Forces on the head when the dummy loaded the airbag were high, indicating the likelihood of head injuries.
