Moderate overlap front: original test

Rating applies to 2007-08 models

Tested vehicle: 2007 Honda Fit Sport wagon

The Honda Fit was introduced in the 2007 model year.

The Fit was evaluated in two 40 mph moderate overlap frontal crash tests. In the first test, the driver frontal airbag deployed too early, with the result that high forces were recorded on the dummy's head when it bottomed out the airbag and hit the steering wheel hard, indicating the likelihood of head injuries. This led Honda to modify the frontal airbag deployment characteristics on models produced after November 2006. Also, Honda initiated a safety improvement campaign to modify at its cost vehicles produced earlier.

A second Fit was tested with the modified airbags, and the driver airbag inflated later. Ratings of the Fit are based on the results of the second test, except structural performance is based on both tests.

Driver restraints and dummy kinematics

Action shot taken during the second of two frontal offset crash tests.

The dummy's position in relation to the steering wheel and instrument panel after both crash tests indicates that the driver's survival space was maintained well (second test shown).

Smeared greasepaint indicates where the dummy's head brushed across the side curtain airbag during rebound.

Forces on the lower right leg were high enough to indicate the possibility of injuries.

Smeared greasepaint shows where the driver dummy's head was protected from being hit by hard structures by the side curtain airbag.

Smeared greasepaint shows where the rear passenger dummy’s head was protected by the side airbag.
