Small overlap front: driver-side

Rating applies to 2016-18 models

Tested vehicle: 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Crew Cab 2wd
The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab were redesigned for the 2014 model year. Beginning with 2016 models, the vehicle frame was reinforced and the body welds in the door hinge pillar and sill were strengthened to improve occupant protection in small overlap crashes.

Restraints and dummy kinematics

Action shot taken during the driver-side small overlap frontal crash test.

The dummy's position in relation to the door frame, steering wheel, and instrument panel after the crash test indicates that the driver's survival space was not maintained well.

Intrusion of the door hinge pillar, instrument panel, and parking brake pedal (indicated) contributed to a likely risk of injury to the left foot and a significant risk to the left lower leg.

The dummy’s head contacted the frontal airbag but rolled around the left side, allowing the head to approach the intruding A-pillar.

Moderate overlap front

Rating applies to 2014-18 models

Tested vehicle: 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country Crew Cab 2wd

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab were redesigned for the 2014 model year. Moderate overlap frontal ratings are assigned by the Institute based on a test conducted by General Motors as part of frontal crash test verification.
