Moderate overlap front: original test

Rating applies to 2007-13 models

Tested vehicle: 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Crew Cab 4x2

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 were redesigned for the 2007 model year.

Driver restraints and dummy kinematics

Action shot taken during the frontal offset crash test.

The dummy's position in relation to the steering wheel and instrument panel after the crash test indicates that the driver's survival space was maintained well.

Dummy movement was well controlled. During rebound, the dummy's head hit only the head restraint, as indicated by smeared greasepaint.

Forces on the lower left leg were high enough to indicate the possibility of injuries.

Side: original test

Rating applies to 2010-13 models

Tested vehicle: 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Crew Cab 4x2 with standard front and rear head curtain airbags and standard front seat-mounted torso airbags

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 were redesigned for the 2007 model year. Side curtain airbags for front and rear seat occupants, optional in 2007-09 models, became standard beginning with 2010 models. Side torso airbags for front seat occupants, not available in 2007-09, were added as standard equipment beginning with 2010 models. Also beginning with 2010 models, front and rear door trim changes, including the addition of energy absorbing foam inside the door panels, were made to improve occupant protection in side impact crashes.
