2021 Volkswagen ID.4 earns Top Safety Pick+

September 21, 2021

The Volkswagen ID.4, a new electric midsize SUV, qualifies for a Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

TOP SAFETY PICK+ is the higher of the Institute’s two awards. To qualify, vehicles must earn good ratings in all six IIHS crashworthiness evaluations, including the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. They must also be available with a front crash prevention system that earns advanced or superior ratings in both the vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations and come with good or acceptable headlights across all trim levels.

Introduced for the 2021 model year as Volkswagen’s first all-electric SUV, the ID.4 meets all those requirements. The midsize SUV comes with a standard front crash prevention system that earns a superior rating in the vehicle-to-vehicle evaluation and an advanced rating in the vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluation. The standard LED reflector headlights earn an acceptable rating, while the optional curve-adaptive LED projectors earn a good rating.
