Driver restraints and dummy kinematics
Dummy movement wasn't well controlled. There was too much upward movement of the steering wheel. During rebound, the dummy moved toward the driver door, and its head hit the B-pillar. The dummy's right knee also hit a metal flange under the steering column, which punctured the vinyl "skin" at the knee.

Action shot taken during the frontal offset crash test.

There was too much upward movement of the steering wheel.

Paint smears indicate where the dummy's knees and shins hit the knee bolster. Steering column movement exposed the metal support that's normally covered by plastic trim.

White paint on the B-pillar indicates where the dummy's head hit, producing moderately high head acceleration.
