Test details:

The Hyundai Tucson was introduced in the 2005 model year. The Kia Sportage was redesigned for the 2005 model year after a two-year absence from the market.

For the 2010 model year, these ratings apply only to the Sportage, because the Tucson was redesigned.

Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was well controlled. During rebound, the dummy’s head hit the B-pillar.

Injury measures — Measures taken from the head, neck, and chest indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. Forces on the left tibia indicate that injuries would be likely for the left lower leg. Forces on the right tibia and right foot indicate that injuries would be possible for the right lower leg and foot. Head acceleration from the B-pillar hit was low.

Left to right:

  • Action shot taken during the frontal offset crash test.
  • The dummy's position in relation to the steering wheel and instrument panel after the crash test indicates that the driver's survival space was maintained well.
  • Smeared pink and red greasepaint indicates where the dummy's head hit the B-pillar and head restraint during rebound. Head accelerations from these hits were low.
  • Forces on the the left leg were high enough to indicate the likelihood of injuries.

Additional features:

  • Side airbags: front and rear head curtain airbags and front seat-mounted torso airbags
  • Electronic stability control, includes roll stability control
  • Antilock brakes
