Test details:
The Isuzu Rodeo was introduced in the 1991 model year and the Honda Passport was introduced in 1994. Frontal airbags for both the driver and passenger became standard partway through the 1995 model year.
Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement wasn't well controlled. During the crash, the seat back moved forward far enough that the head restraint hit the back of the dummy's head. The dummy's torso rotated so that the back of its head almost hit the bottom of the window frame. Both legs jammed against the instrument panel. The left knee hit a sharp edge of the panel, producing a gash in the dummy's vinyl "skin." Also, there was far too much rearward movement of the steering wheel.
Injury measures — Measures taken from the head, neck, and chest indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. Forces on both tibias indicate that injuries to the lower legs would be likely.
Left to right:
- Action shot taken during the frontal offset crash test.
- Post-crash damage shot.
- Severe footwell intrusion and rearward movement of the instrument panel in the offset test contributed to high risk of significant injury to both legs. The dummy's "skin" was gashed where its knee jammed against the instrument panel.
Additional features:
- Rear-wheel antilock brakes (standard)
- 4-wheel antilock brakes (optional)
