Test details:

The Subaru Legacy was redesigned for the 1995 model year.

Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was well controlled. After the dummy moved forward into the airbag, it rebounded into the seat without its head coming close to any stiff structure that could cause injury.

Injury measures — Measures taken from the head, neck, chest, and right leg indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. Forces on the left tibia indicate that injuries to the lower leg would be likely. Forces on the lower left leg were even higher than recorded because one of the data channels reached the maximum reading.

Left to right:

  • Action shot taken during the frontal offset crash test.
  • The dummy's position in relation to the steering wheel and instrument panel after the crash test indicates that the driver's survival space was maintained reasonably well.
  • Measures taken from the instrumented driver dummy indicates high risk of injury to the left leg.
  • Dummy movement was effectively controlled during the crash test.

Additional features:

  • Antilock brakes (optional on 1995-96 models, standard beginning with 1997 models)

Tested vehicle specifications:

  • 1995 Subaru Legacy L 2WD 4-door
