Test details:
The Toyota Prius c was introduced in the 2012 model year and is derived from the Toyota Yaris. Frontal ratings are assigned by the Institute based on a test conducted by Toyota as part of frontal crash test verification.
Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was well controlled. The driver side curtain airbag deployed during the crash. As the dummy moved forward into the frontal airbag, its head also contacted the side curtain airbag.
Injury measures — Measures taken from the neck, chest, and both legs indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. A high head acceleration occurred when the dummy's head hit the steering wheel through the frontal airbag, indicating that head injuries would be possible.
Additional features:
- Side airbags: front and rear head curtain airbags and front seat-mounted torso airbags
- Driver knee airbag: a separate airbag in the lower instrument panel designed to minimize knee injuries in frontal crashes
- Seat cushion airbags: separate airbags in the forward portion of the driver and passenger seat cushions to prevent occupants from sliding under the seat belts
- Electronic stability control
- Antilock brakes
- Daytime running lights
