Test details:

The Hyundai Azera was redesigned for the 2012 model year and is derived from the Hyundai Sonata. Frontal ratings are assigned by the Institute based on a test conducted by Hyundai as part of frontal crash test verification.

Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was well controlled. The driver side curtain and side thorax airbags deployed during the crash. After the dummy moved forward into the frontal airbag, its head contacted the dislodged headliner above the side curtain airbag.

Injury measures — Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity.

Additional features:

  • Side airbags: front and rear head curtain airbags and front and rear seat-mounted torso airbags
  • Driver knee airbag: a separate airbag in the lower instrument panel designed to minimize knee injuries in frontal crashes
  • Electronic stability control
  • Antilock brakes

Tested vehicle specifications:
