The Scion xD was introduced in the 2008 model year. Beginning with 2012 models, modifications were made to the front seat belts to improve occupant protection in frontal crashes. Because the structure was not changed, the structure rating is based on this test and an earlier test of a 2008 model Scion xD.
Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was well controlled. During rebound, the dummy's head hit the roof rail.
Injury measures — Measures taken from the neck and chest indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. A high head acceleration occurred when the dummy's head hit the steering wheel through the airbag, indicating that head injuries would be possible. Forces on the right foot indicate that injuries to the foot would also be possible. Head acceleration from the roof rail hit was low.
