Test details:

The Toyota Yaris hatchback was redesigned for the 2012 model year. Frontal ratings are assigned by the Institute based on a test conducted by Toyota as part of frontal crash test verification. The Yaris 4-door sedan was not redesigned for 2012, its final model year. Therefore the frontal ratings detailed below apply only to the 4-door hatchback.

Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was well controlled. During rebound, the dummy's head hit the roof rail.

Injury measures — Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity. Head acceleration from the roof rail hit was low.

Additional features:

  • Side airbags: front and rear head curtain airbags and front seat-mounted torso airbags
  • Driver knee airbag: a separate airbag in the lower instrument panel designed to minimize knee injuries in frontal crashes
  • Seat cushion airbags: separate airbags in the forward portion of the driver and front passenger seat cushions to prevent occupants from sliding under the seat belts in frontal crashes
  • Electronic stability control
  • Antilock brakes
  • Daytime running lights
