Test details:
The Saturn L Series was introduced in the 2000 model year and discontinued after a limited number of 2005 models were manufactured.
Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was reasonably well controlled. During rebound from the airbag, the dummy moved toward the driver door, and its head went partway through the open window. Then the head moved back in and hit the B-pillar and top of the door opening.
Injury measures — Measures taken from the head, neck, and chest indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. Forces on the right tibia indicate that injuries to the lower leg would be likely. Head acceleration from the B-pillar hit was low.
Left to right:
- Action shot taken during the frontal offset crash test.
- The dummy's position in relation to the steering wheel and instrument panel after the crash test indicates that the driver's survival space was maintained reasonably well.
- Moderate footwell intrusion contributed to the likelihood of right leg injury.
- Damage was minimal in a 5 mph rear-into-pole impact.
Additional features:
- Side airbags: front and rear head curtain airbags (standard on 2002-05 models, optional on 2001 models)
- Antilock brakes (standard on 2002 and 2004-05 models, optional on 2000-01 and 2003 models)
- Daytime running lights
