Test details:

The Toyota Tundra was redesigned for the 2007 model year. Beginning with 2010 models, the driver and passenger frontal airbags and front seat belts were modified and knee airbags for the driver and front passenger were added. Frontal ratings are assigned by the Institute based on a test conducted by Toyota as part of frontal crash test verification. Because there were no structural changes, the structure rating of the current model is based on both Toyota's test and two earlier tests of a 2007 Tundra model.

Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was well controlled. During rebound, the dummy's head hit the roof rail.

Injury measures — Measures taken from the head, neck, and chest indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. A high acceleration was recorded on the right foot, indicating that foot injuries would be possible. Head acceleration from the roof rail hit was low.

Additional features:

  • Side airbags: front and rear head curtain airbags and front seat-mounted torso airbags
  • Rollover sensor: designed to deploy the side curtain airbags in the event of an impending rollover
  • Driver and front passenger knee airbags: separate airbags in the lower instrument panel designed to minimize knee injuries in frontal crashes (beginning with 2010 models)
  • Electronic stability control
  • Antilock brakes
  • Daytime running lights (optional)

Tested vehicle specifications:
