Test details:

The Honda Fit was redesigned for the 2009 model year.

Two tests of the Fit were conducted, one by the Institute and the other by Honda as part of frontal crash test verification. Ratings are based on both tests, but vehicle specifications given below are based on the Institute’s test.

Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was well controlled in both tests. The driver side curtain and side torso airbags deployed during the crashes. During rebound, the dummy’s head contacted the side curtain airbag, which kept the head away from any stiff structure that could cause injury.

Injury measures — In each test, measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity.

Left to right:

  • Action shot taken during the Institute's frontal offset crash test.
  • The dummy's position in relation to the steering wheel and instrument panel after the crash test indicates that the driver's survival space was maintained well (Institute test car shown).
  • Smeared greasepaint indicates where the dummy's head brushed across the side curtain airbag during rebound in the Institute's test.
  • Intrusion into the driver's space was minimal, and all leg and foot injury measures were low in both tests.

Additional features:

  • Side airbags: front and rear head curtain airbags and front seat-mounted torso airbags
  • Electronic stability control (standard beginning with 2011 models, optional on 2009-10 models)
  • Antilock brakes
  • Daytime running lights

Tested vehicle specifications:

  • 2009 Honda Fit wagon
  • Class: Minicar
  • Weight: 2,546 lbs.
