Test details:

The Pontiac Aztek was introduced in the 2001 model year and discontinued after the 2005 model year.

Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was reasonably well controlled. The airbag deployed late, and the dummy's head nearly hit the steering wheel through the airbag. There was too much upward steering wheel movement.

Injury measures — Measures taken from the neck, chest, and both legs indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. Forces on the head indicate that injuries to the head would be possible.

Left to right:

  • Action shot taken during the frontal offset crash test.
  • The dummy's position in relation to the steering wheel and instrument panel after the crash test indicates that the driver's survival space was maintained reasonably well.
  • The airbag deployed so late that the dummy's head nearly hit the steering wheel. Forces on the head were moderately high.
  • Despite moderate intrusion into the driver footwell area, injury measures on the legs and feet were low.

Additional features:

  • Side airbags: driver seat-mounted combination head and torso airbag and front right passenger seat-mounted torso airbag (standard on all 2001-02 models and 2003-05 4-wheel-drive models, optional on 2003-05 2-wheel-drive models )
  • Antilock brakes (standard on all 2001-02 models and 2003-05 4-wheel-drive models, optional on 2003-05 2-wheel-drive models)
  • Daytime running lights
