To get a learners permit you must
Have a minimum age of 15, 9 months
Before getting an intermediate or restricted license you must
Have your permit for 9 months1
Complete minimum supervised driving of 60 hours, 10 of which must be at night
Have a minimum age of 16, 6 months
Restrictions during intermediate or restricted license stage
Nighttime restriction midnight-5 a.m.2
Passenger limit (family members excepted unless otherwise noted) no passengers younger than 18 secondary enforcement
Minimum age at which restrictions may be lifted
Nighttime restriction until age 18 (min. age: 18)
Passenger restriction 5 months or until age 18, whichever occurs first (min. age: 16, 11 mos.)

1In Maryland, all license applicants younger than 25 must hold a learner's permit for nine months before taking the road test and all applicants 25 and older must hold the permit for 45 days.
