Important: Frontal crash test ratings should be compared only among vehicles of similar weight.

The Volkswagen Jetta and Golf were redesigned for the 1993 model year and continued through the early part of the 1999 model year. Frontal airbags for both the driver and passenger were introduced as options beginning with the 1994 model year and were made standard in 1995. Note: the ratings apply only to cars equipped with the frontal airbags.

Injury measures

Measures taken from the chest indicate low risk of injuries to this body region in a crash of this severity. A high head acceleration occurred when the dummy's head hit the window frame, indicating that injuries to the head would be possible. Forces on the left tibia indicate that injuries to the lower leg would be likely. Forces on the right tibia indicate that injuries to the lower leg would be possible. Head acceleration from the B-pillar hit was low.

Restraints and dummy kinematics

Dummy movement was reasonably well controlled. During rebound, the dummy moved toward the driver door, which had bowed outward, and its head hit the window frame and B-pillar.
