Important: Frontal crash test ratings should be compared only among vehicles of similar weight.

The Suzuki Verona was introduced in the 2004 model year and discontinued after the 2006 model year.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has evaluated the crashworthiness of the Verona in two 40 mph frontal offset crash tests into deformable barriers. In the first test, the driver airbag deployed improperly because of reversed wiring. This led Suzuki to fix the wiring on cars in production and to initiate a safety recall to modify at its cost vehicles produced earlier. The Institute tested a second Verona with the fix and the airbag inflated correctly. Ratings of the Verona are based on the results of the second test, except structural performance is based on both tests.

Injury measures

Measures taken from the head, neck, and chest indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. Forces on both tibias indicate that injuries to the lower right leg would be likely and injuries to the lower left leg would be possible. Head accelerations from the B-pillar, roof rail, and grab handle hits were low.

Restraints and dummy kinematics

Dummy movement was reasonably well controlled in the second test. During rebound, the dummy's head hit the B-pillar, roof rail, and grab handle. Also, the driver's seat pitched forward slightly and tipped toward the door.

Side crash test ratings can be compared across vehicle categories.

The Suzuki Verona was introduced in the 2004 model year and discontinued after the 2006 model year. Seat-mounted side airbags designed to protect drivers' and front passengers' heads and torsos were made standard in 2005-06 models. (In 2004 no side airbags were available.)

Two tests of the Verona were conducted, one a 2005 model equipped with standard side airbags, and one a 2004 model without side airbags. These vehicles are rated separately, except that the structural ratings and rear passenger head protection ratings for both vehicles are based on both tests.

Injury measures

Driver — Measures taken from the dummy indicate that a fracture of the pelvis would be likely in a crash of this severity. The risk of significant injuries to other body regions is low.

Passenger — Measures taken from the dummy indicate that a left femur fracture would be possible in a crash of this severity. The risk of significant injuries to other body regions is low.

Head protection

Driver — The dummy's head was protected from being hit by any hard structures, including the intruding barrier, by a side airbag that deployed from the seat.

Passenger — In tests of both the 2005 and 2004 models, the dummy's head was hit by the window frame and window sill of the rear passenger door. These hits did not produce high head injury measures. However, hitting the window areas should be prevented.
