The Nissan Pathfinder was redesigned for the 2013 model year, and the Infiniti JX35, a luxury version of the Pathfinder, was introduced in the 2013 model year. Beginning with 2014 models, the JX35 was renamed the QX60. Beginning with 2015 models of both the Pathfinder and QX60, the front structure was modified to improve occupant protection in small overlap frontal crashes.

Structure

The driver space was maintained well, with maximum intrusion of the lower interior of 14 cm at the lower hinge pillar. Upper interior intrusion measured 7-10 cm at the hinge pillar and instrument panel.

Injury measures

Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity.

Restraints and dummy kinematics

The dummy’s movement was well controlled. The dummy’s head loaded the frontal airbag, which stayed in front of the dummy until rebound. The side curtain airbag deployed and had sufficient forward coverage to protect the head from contact with side structure and outside objects. The side torso airbag also deployed.

The Nissan Pathfinder was redesigned for the 2013 model year, and the Infiniti JX35, a luxury version of the Pathfinder, was introduced in the 2013 model year. Beginning with 2014 models, the JX35 was renamed the QX60.

Moderate overlap frontal ratings are assigned by the Institute based on two tests conducted by Nissan as part of frontal crash test verification. The first test was conducted on a 2013 model Pathfinder and the second test on a 2014 model Pathfinder. Ratings apply to both model years, but the vehicle specifications are for the 2014 model.

Injury measures

In each test, measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity. Head acceleration from the B-pillar hit was low in the first test.

Restraints and dummy kinematics

Dummy movement was well controlled in both tests. During rebound in the first test, the dummy’s head hit the B-pillar. In the second test, the driver side curtain and side torso airbags deployed. As the dummy moved forward into the frontal airbag and during rebound, its head contacted the side curtain airbag.
