The Mazda 5 was redesigned for the 2012 model year.
Driver — Measures taken from the dummy indicate that a fracture of the pelvis would be likely in a crash of this severity. The risk of significant injuries to other body regions is low.
Passenger — Measures taken from the dummy indicate that rib fractures and/or internal organ injuries would be possible in a crash of this severity. The risk of significant injuries to other body regions is low, including head injury risk from the window sill hit.
Driver — The side curtain airbag did not fully cover the window opening near the dummy's head during deployment. After the head was contacted by the side airbag, it continued to move outward and downward until it was hit by the window sill of the driver door, when the head was in near proximity with the intruding barrier. Although the barrier did not hit the dummy's head in this test, this near miss indicates that only slightly different crash circumstances could produce a direct hit to a person's head.
Passenger — The dummy’s head was protected from being hit by any hard structures, including the intruding barrier, by a side curtain airbag that deployed from the roof.

How this test is conducted
Measures of occupant compartment intrusion on driver side
|B-pillar to longitudinal centerline of driver's seat (cm) |
Negative numbers indicate the amount by which the crush stopped short of the seat centerline.
