Important: Frontal crash test ratings should be compared only among vehicles of similar weight. |
The Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable were introduced in the 1986 model year. Frontal airbags for both the driver and passenger were introduced as options beginning with the 1992 model year and were made standard for the Sable in 1993 and for the Taurus in 1994.
Injury measures
Measures taken from the neck, chest, and legs indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. A high head acceleration occurred when the dummy's head hit the B-pillar, indicating that injuries to the head would be possible.
Restraints and dummy kinematics
Dummy movement was well controlled. During rebound, the dummy's head hit the B-pillar.
