The Ford Aerostar was introduced in the 1986 model year. A frontal airbag for the driver became standard beginning with the 1992 model year.

Injury measures

Measures taken from the chest and right leg indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. A high head acceleration occurred when the dummy's head hit the steering wheel through the airbag, indicating that injuries to the head would be possible. Forces on the left tibia indicate that injuries to the lower leg would be likely.

Restraints and dummy kinematics

Dummy movement wasn't well controlled. The dummy's head hit the steering wheel through the airbag, and the wheel broke off from its column.
