Important: Frontal crash test ratings should be compared only among vehicles of similar weight. |
The Dodge Ram 1500 was introduced in the 1994 model year. Frontal airbags for both the driver and passenger became standard beginning with the 1998 model year.
Injury measures
Measures taken from the chest indicate low risk of injuries to this body region in a crash of this severity. Forces on the head and neck indicate that injuries to the head and neck would be likely. Forces on both tibias indicate that injuries to the lower left leg would be likely and injuries to the lower right leg would be possible. Forces on the left foot indicate that injuries to the foot would be possible. Head acceleration from the door hit was low.
Restraints and dummy kinematics
Dummy movement wasn't well controlled. The airbag deployed too late, and there was far too much upward steering wheel movement, which contributed to the dummy's head bottoming out the airbag and hitting the steering wheel. Floor buckling tilted the driver seat forward and toward the door. Also, the seat came loose on one of its tracks and moved rearward slightly on the left side. During rebound, the dummy moved toward the driver door, and its head hit the inside of the door below the window sill.
