Toyota Corolla

2009 models

OVERALL BUMPER EVALUATION: Poor

OVERALL WEIGHTED AVERAGE DAMAGE: $1,852

TEST DETAILS: During the front full-overlap test, the Toyota Corolla bumper system underrode the barrier, resulting in damage to the cover, energy absorber, reinforcement, hood and both headlamps. Additionally, the air conditioning condenser was punctured by the grille and the upper radiator support was spread outboard. During the rear full-overlap test, the bumper engaged the barrier, resulting in cover, energy absorber and reinforcement damage. Additionally, the cover loaded two studs on the rear body panel used for mounting a radio transceiver (not equipped on this vehicle), slightly bending the rear body panel. During the front corner test, there was no bumper/barrier lateral engagement, resulting in the headlamp being crushed by the barrier backstop; in turn, the headlamp was driven into the fender, buckling the fender. During the rear corner test, there was no bumper/barrier lateral engagement, resulting in the crushing of the left rear body panel and lower quarter panel extension, in addition to cover and absorber damage.
