Chevrolet HHR

2006 - 2009 models

OVERALL BUMPER EVALUATION: Poor

OVERALL WEIGHTED AVERAGE DAMAGE: $1,984

TEST DETAILS: During the front full-overlap test, the Chevrolet HHR bumper system underrode the barrier, resulting in cover, energy absorber, reinforcement, hood and sidemember flange damage. Additionally, the grille surround cracked and a piece of it was driven into the air conditioning condenser, puncturing the condenser. During the rear full-overlap test, the bumper engaged the barrier; however, in addition to bumper cover and reinforcement damage, the rear body panel was buckled around the sidemember ends. Additionally, the bumper cover vertically loaded the tailgate, rolling its lower edge. During the front corner test, there was no bumper/barrier lateral engagement, resulting in the cover being buckled and the headlamp being crushed by the barrier backstop; in turn, the headlamp was driven into the fender, bending the leading edge and buckling the upper surface of the fender. During the rear corner test, the bumper initially engaged the barrier before slipping off; however, in addition to cover and energy absorber damage, the quarter panel was crushed.
