Joyce is elected IIHS board chairman

ARLINGTON, VA — The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is pleased to announce the election of Douglas S. Joyce as the new chairman of its Board of Directors. Joyce is president of Alfa Alliance Insurance Corporation. He succeeds Steven George, chief operations officer, California State Auto Group, who served as IIHS chairman during 2011 and will continue to serve as a Board member.

"For more than 50 years, IIHS and insurers have been on a mission to reduce motor vehicle crash injuries, deaths, and property damage on our nation's roads," Joyce says. "I look forward to joining with my fellow Board members to advance this life-saving work." IIHS president Adrian Lund adds, "I'm pleased to have Doug at the helm as we look to expand our vehicle test programs in 2012 to raise the bar for highway safety."

The new chairman-elect is Alice H. Gannon, senior vice president, chief actuary, USAA. The new vice chairman is Jeff Gendron, senior vice president, property casualty operations, COUNTRY Financial. Other IIHS Board members are:
